Atari

Throughout my High School years I had an Atari computer system. It consisted of an Atari 800, Gemini 10x Printer w/ Apeface interface, and a couple of Atari 1050 drives. I also had an MPP 300 baud modem – from which I downloaded quite a number of apps. I came across this picture from Sean Tevis’ blog and just wanted to mark it up a little to show how similar it was to my actual setup!

Got rid of my Nissan (drinks gas quite liberally) Xterra and bought a Toyota Prius today. My daily use of a car is primarily non-highway miles back and forth to work and to 24 hour fitness. That lends itself well to a switch from a 17mpg SUV gas guzzler to 44 mpg hybrid sedan. Due to the Prius’ popularity, there is not as much give on the pricing. They are still fairly reasonably priced at the base model, though.
I ended up getting a black Prius with Option B ( audio system/smart key/etc package) – no GPS built in for me thank you I work for a GPS manufacturer of course. This hybrid ran to about 25k. I worked with the same salesperson who sold us Nina’s car. So now we are a Toyota family I guess. Looking forward to taking a significant cut out of my monthly gas bill.

Killing independent ‘Sean’
Friday, March 14, 2008
Recently, I have come to the realization that having a company phone is not a great thing to bring home when it has email. I get on the average about 150 email a day. That is on an average day. The little red blinking light is a distraction when going out to dinner or trying to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon. It is a bit like an intrusion on my personal life, quite frankly. I know I have a lot more responsibility now and keeping track of details is critical to the success of our products, but independent Sean needs time for himself and his family. Indeed, this blackberry is killing independent Sean. A Sean divided against itself cannot stand!
I love this scene from Seinfeld:
So I have a new rule. The ‘crackberry’ stays in the office unless I go on business travel. It does not come home with me in the evening nor do I spend the weekend with it. I spend evenings and weekends with my family as independent Sean.
Having a lot of responsibility brings with it a lot of stress. I work out and run several times a week over lunch, I have started playing my violin again with Liam, among other things. But that is only one way of trying to find a better balance between life and work.
So now I have my own personal phone.

Wise choice

So it was not a bad idea getting PS3 with Blu-Ray. According to the latest news, it’s a wrap. HD is dead. Icing on the cake for me was the fact that Microsoft was a big backer of HD DVD format – no doubt because they were pimping their .NET framework for the required UI code of each and every HD DVD player. However, BluRay is Java based for all player UI.
